Attorney Tamara Hoffstatter has been practicing law for 22 years, and has been with NM Divorce & Custody Law, LLC since 2015. In that time, she has provided our clients with experienced and reliable legal representation in a variety of family law matters. These issues are those that have tangible impacts upon her clients’ lives, which is why Attorney Hoffstatter treats each client’s situation with respect and attention to detail.

Some of the specific legal services Attorney Hoffstatter can provide include the following:

  • Representation for LGBTQ clients in any family law issue
  • Advocating for clients in kinship guardianship matters
  • Helping clients legally establish a child’s parentage
  • Fighting for clients’ custodial rights and responsibilities

As a 1999 graduate of the University of Iowa College of Law, Attorney Hoffstatter has enjoyed practicing in several areas of law.

She began her legal career prosecuting juvenile abuse and neglect cases in Muskegon, Michigan. She later transitioned to practicing personal injury, insurance subrogation, collections, and bankruptcy law in Maryland and Michigan. Although these areas of law were much different than those she handled as an assistant prosecuting attorney, the transition was intended to help Attorney Hoffstatter gain more trial experience.

Once she felt that her trial skills were sharp enough, Attorney Hoffstatter opened her own practice. There, she practiced insurance subrogation, commercial collections, and bankruptcy. Through the years of experience she gained, she realized that there was often a significant overlap between bankruptcy/collection cases and divorce cases. Not only did this foster a growing interest in practicing family law, but it afforded Attorney Hoffstatter a unique insight into how financial factors can affect a divorce case.

She was always enthusiastic about working with children and families, so Attorney Hoffstatter eventually accepted a position in Michigan at a nationwide family law firm. That firm approached her to relocate to New Mexico to establish an Albuquerque office in 2013. Once she relocated to New Mexico and established herself as a family law practitioner in the community, she was approached by NM Divorce & Custody Law, LLC and asked to join the firm, where she exclusively practices family law
